Song of the Day: The Other Little Soldier - Josh Gracin

The Other Little Soldier is the 11th track off Josh Gracin's self-titled debut album.

On this Memorial Day I'd like to say thank you to all our heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, and the ones they left behind.

Josh Gracin served as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marine Corps from 2000-2004.

Song of the Day: War - Jay Sean

"War" is the 8th song off Jay Sean's debut U.S. album All or Nothing.  I think what initially drew me to this song is that musically it's a lot like his hit single "Down," but the lyrics tell a much deeper story.  "To battle with anybody, whether it's your girl, family or another country never solved anything," explained Sean to ABC Action 6 in 2010.

This is on my list of "happy-breakup" songs, it's moving but not depressing.  I just visualize looking at someone and saying, "Look, I can't do this.  I'm sorry but this is it."  No tear-jerking, no emotion at all.  It's just the end, clean-cut and simple.

Song of the Day: What Makes You Beautiful - Boyce Avenue

I'm a sucker for acoustic so Boyce Avenue's acoustic covers are all over my favorites.  What Makes You Beautiful is the 6th track off New Acoustic Sessions, Vol 2.

It's really hard to find much information about the band, but their Facebook page has the most extensive biography I've found to date.

Official Music Video by One Direction

One Direction released What Makes You Beautiful in late 2011 as the the lead single off their debut album Up All Night.  The success of the album made One Direction the first British band to debut on top of the Billboard 200 list.

Song of the Day: Neptune - S.J. Tucker

Neptune is the 6th track off S.J. Tucker's newest album Mischief.  I was initially drawn to Tucker through her Blessings album but fell in love with her for her diverse style which is well played in the fun Mischief album and her simple arrangements.  All you really need is a voice and a guitar right?  If you love this song as much as I do you can download it for free (along with a few other tracks off this album) at her website.

Story Behind the Song

Love changes us all, makes us broken, makes us brave, makes us deny ourselves and our very breath, makes us refuse to listen when our hearts tell us that the time has come to move on, to break the surface. "Neptune" is the story of what can happen after you've drowned yourself willingly in someone else's hopes and dreams, and you find that saltwater and shadows no longer sustain you. "Neptune" is the story of what can happen when you've lived in sin with a god for long enough that the respective piles of dirty laundry and broken promises have started to really get on your nerves.

Song of the Day: Hang with Me - Robyn

Official Music Video

Hang with Me is the lead single off Robyn's 6th studio album Body Talk Pt. 2 (2010).  Writer Klas Ahlund originally made it for the Swedish singer Paola Bruna in 2002, for Robyn he re-wrote it, added a chorus and made it more uptempo.

Robyn says:
Klaus wrote [the song] but it sounded very different.  It's a song that he recorded with his ex-wife!  He re-wrote it and I was bombarded by him with his old music.  And out of that came a few songs.  It was more like a ballad in the beginning.  It's a sweet song.  Beautiful and bitter sweet, It's about falling in love and being scared.  I wanted to see if [the video] could be organic too, Like Twitter and my website.  We decided to make something simple that gives the feeling of touring intensity.  Max Vitali directed it and I wanted a video which connected back through the touring with I'm doing all year.

Acoustic version

Normally I'm a killer for acoustic and I always choose that version over the original.  This one I'm split, probably because the acoustic version is so different.  It's a ballad, and the upbeatness of the original is part of why I fell in love with the song.
